Lord Mandelson stood by Jeffrey Epstein in the lead-up to his sentencing in 2008, leaked emails suggest, telling him that “your friends stay with you and love you”.

In exchanges between the pair’s private email addresses shortly before Epstein was sentenced to 18 months in prison for soliciting prostitution after a plea deal, Mandelson wrote that he thought “the world” of Epstein, The Sun reported.

He urged his friend to “be incredibly resilient, fight for early release and be philosophical about it as much as you can”.

Mandelson wrote that “it just could not happen in Britain”, adding that “the whole thing has been years of torture”.

This was obviously released AFTER Starmer's fulsome backing for his Ambassador. Odds on Starmer seeing the year out?
