Yes I suppose similar as it touches on that. But moreover it's about how Big Pharma pushed the opioid knowing they were an addictive narcotic, and circumventing / frauding their ways around to push the opiods in the US. Its a dramatisation of course, however shocking at the lengths Big Pharma will go to to sell their product - if one can imagine the writer has back ground knowledge of the practices.

Purdue Pharma and their relentless promotion of OxyContin. They also upped the opium content to make it more appealing.
