Both are young and have futures.

I thought so too. Harper started slow and got better, Sam was ok but tired later.
FFS, leave the kids alone.

Said in an earlier thread felt against a seasoned side like Boro playing Field and Harper with Livermore on the bench was the wrong call by the gaffer

Cuzer

Agreed with this until I saw the shape Livermore was in when he came on.

Quite. Do we really want to go back to the days of Leko not making a tackle against a Palace player (Zaha?) who then scored and Leko was subsequently chucked in the dungeon by Pulis?

This picking over of young player's performances is bad enough, but particularly when in his last league match, he scored a cracking goal.

Field and Harper were very good, there are no doubts about that.

Edwards not too far behind, Leko dropped a little as he seems to make poor decisions and needs to develop his overall game

Great point made earlier comparing Field to Carrick.
He'll be pulling the strings as he develops as a player.

Think field and harper were fine on Saturday, they did not make the mistakes ,i think some fans have decided they are not good enough and just want to criticise them

It’s legitimate to highlight the areas in which they are short and need to develop. I for one agree that Field’s best position long term looks like the Barry role he played at Brighton and playing them together on Saturday didnt offer enough.

They are all decent prospects, but not the finished article yet and while we have high hopes, there are no guarantees they’ll get there.

For example, Leko at Brighton offered a threat second half, but with very questionable decision making. However, in the first half he lost the ball on each of the first eight times he received it and looked out of his dephth, well behind Field and Harper.

Agreed, Field looked very good against a very experienced Brighton side when playing that role, but he doesn’t have the mobility to play alongside Barry. The first goal conceded against Bolton shows the problems playing them together as when the defence split, they both dropped into the central role and neither was in the right place - Barry’s inability to control the ball then finished the job!
