But it isn't a one way street, if a youngster doesn't come up to scratch the club will get not offer them a contract, i'm sure it gives the club no pleasure to do this, for youth coaches it must be the worst part of the job to tell a young player they are not going to make it, especially if the player has been with the club since they were at primary school age.

I don't want to talk about the Ferguson situation as I have no idea how it will conclude, but there is a scenario that if Bilic had not come to the club, he might still have been seen as centre half and it is possible the club might not have wanted to offer him a contract.

That first part is true. Of course, though, the club let many go. Harsh as it is, I think everyone involved is glad of the chance. Before our academy status my mates' son was with Albion. There were 60 in his age stream and Albion kept just one. He makes a living coaching at cricket now but I've never heard him say anything about regretting his time at the club. It's a ruthless business but I'd have been happy with a chance at it.
We clearly took our eye off the ball, re Ferguson and should perhaps have offered him a rise and extended contract as soon as he made the squad. I hope we have learned from this.

But we did. We offered him a new deal as soon as the season kicked off.

IMO
Why would we put any youngster in the 1st team who hadn't got 2-3 years worth of contract, unless we wanted to put them in the shop window and sell them.

OK, right then. Maybe the lesson we need to learn is that they don't get selected until they have signed ? As I say, I hope we have learned from this.

In hindsight that's 100% right. Going forwards we need to be saying that to them. Even if it's just 18 months. Something that protects us.

We are in the same boat with Tulloch. Hes wanted by lots of clubs and as yet hasn't signed the deal on the table yet we have started picking him.

Knowing our luck he's probably got the same fuggin agent.....

Nope - he's with Sturridge Sports - same as Tyler Roberts, Daniel Sturridge's agency.
I see O'Shea has ex Albion striker Imre Varadi as his agent

Who is Kyle Edwards looked after by?
If he was shite no one would care if we dumped him unceremoniously at the doors of Bilston Town. We f clubs and fans collectively want loyalty then perhaps the culture of the game needs to change rather than blame individuals.

Apparently Sturbridge broke three fingers handing him the pen.
