I'm sure that will endear younger voters to the Tories. Not only do you get a marginal rate of 50% at £27k for daring to do a masters degree but you also need to prop up the Treasury on your own.

What? Who did that come from?

No, I mean the idea - it's almost the exact opposite of what you'd need.

The government via the Treasury if you trust the Times.

Having read the same article I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion.

The bit where they said the Treasury were considering income tax exemptions for over-50s. That's how I got to that conclusion. 11th paragraph.

Income tax exemptions for those over 50s returning to work for a period of six to twelve months is not the same as "exempting over-50s from income tax". If only.

It still a daft unworkable idea nevertheless.

It's an exemption for income tax, it only applies to over-50s and not others in an equivalent situation who are younger.

Is this where the Conservative Government has got to, scrabbling around trying to think of ways to get those retired to fill the jobs that Brexit and austerity have created? As an observation the over 50s were the strongest supporters of both decisions, let’s wait and see if their patriotism extends to going back to work to help out.
