Let’s have a look at the definition of the word “next”

being the first one after the present one or after the one just mentioned:

Examples….
Who works in the office next to yours?
Take the next street on the right.
Who do you think will be the next president?
Nothing really changes around here. One day is pretty much like the next.
(The) next time you want to borrow something, please ask me first.
I'm so busy it's hard to remember what I'm supposed to be doing from one minute to the next.
She's away for the next few days.
You'll have to wait until your next birthday for a new bike.
Can we arrange a meeting for the week after next?
What do you think you'll be doing this time next year?
We had a big argument, but he called me the next day (= the day after) to apologize.
Excuse me, it's my turn - I was next.

Your next door neighbour doesn’t live two doors down and next in line doesn’t mean the second person in a queue!!!

When and where did the incorrect use of the word “next” arise in relation to days?

The results of the poll so far show how fucked up it is.  I wonder who will be the next poster to vote? Big Grin

Probably a Black Country thing like breakfast, dinner and tea.

So by that you’re saying it’s Friday 30th December 1100pm and the next Saturday is Saturday the 7th January well where has Saturday 31st December gone. The next Saturday is always the next Saturday you come to.
