Sheffield Utd (second season) Won promotion to Premier League.
Sheffield Utd (third season) Finished 9th in Premier league despite lowest budget.
Sheffield Utd (fourth season) Relegated after a poor season.
Big Sam
Notts County 1997 - Promoted from Div 3
Bolton 2000 2000 - Promoted via play offs
West Ham 2012 - Promoted via play offs
West Brom - Relegated
Wilder already has more promotions than Big Sam in a much shorter career. Impressive CV if you ask me. Certainly no risk in giving Wilder the gig if you want automatic promotion.
So basically Sam has got promoted at every club he's ever managed that wasn't in the top flight. Were all those at the first time of asking as well? Im asking cause I genuinely don't know.
In that case, why are you seemingly so against it? From your post above it seems both Wilder or Allardyce would be good options. Personally I'd prefer Wilder but both have cracking records in getting teams promoted
I'm not so against it totally. You'll see from my posts on other threads I can see some merit in it but still feel he's been an anticlimax and we've pissed loads of points away in "must win games" (his words) when the team have been too conservative in their approach. Wilders CV is the same if not better than Sam's in terms of promotion. And a much more recent history of the championship too.
The reason I'd want Sam to stay is if he can persuade Okay to stay and try and keep some of the group together. Seeing as the chances of that are slim I think Wilder might be the better bet. There will be plenty of othe managers out there too. Just look at the list of managers that have recently been promoted out of the championship. Hardly any had any experience of the division before being promoted.
The arguement for Sam by some seems to be he'd be a safe pair of hands. I'm just not as convinced that would be the case. As a separate issue I don't think he's got the drive for it either. That's just a gut feeling.

Exactly where I'm at Peachy.
I'm more excited by Wilder as he has a recent record of winning promotion and that's what we need. Sam is the perfect appointment if we need to survive in the PL but winning promotion requires a very different motivation and skill-set and I'm not sure I'm comfortable gambling our best chance of promotion on a man who's only managed in that division / been expected to win more than 1 in 3 to be a success once in 20 years.
