No mate, my knees have been blissfully pain free until my left started playing up about 12 months ago.

do not get me wrong mate i never had any pain from it but running past walkers it sounded like i was farting lol
a good freind of mine who i used to go boxing training with showed me some exercisices to stop the problem and worked perfectly

Tell them you’re Fartlek traiming.

I’ve contemplated running but I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both knees over 20 years ago and told by the specialist not to run.

I’ve also picked up injuries from walking long distances (Plantar fasciitis, light fracture to tibia, pulled hamstring and calf muscle) and so that’s also put me off from taking up running.

This is the most painful injury I have ever had and I have had it in both feet now.
All the 'usual' remedies (golf ball, bottle of ice, insoles, rigid boot to sleep in etc) failed me and both times I ended up having cortizone injections in the soles of my feet which I wouldn't wish on anybody.
At the end of the day - it goes when it wants to and is agony until then!

It did hurt for sure and I was unable to go walking for over 6 months, waiting for it to heal. In the mornings I couldn’t put any weight on it and would be hobbling around.

For me, back pain has been far more painful.

Just got my first sub 8 minute mile under my belt, which am pretty chuffed with. Only really started running in Jan (always played football and ignored running as an activity on its own), not sure where to go once I hit the 5k mark? I’ve no ambition to run a marathon or anything, but a local 10k or something might be a reasonable target?

10k is reasonable. It’s only six miles and is the last stop before you get into “serious” distance running (ie halves and full marathons).

Did six miles this morning which gives me sixteen for the week (two fives and a six).

Yeah I’d love to do another marathon but not sure I can commit to the training with two small kids. It’s hard enough to grab an hour to go out these days without worrying about disappearing for 3-4 hours while I run 20 miles then spend the rest of the day falling asleep on the sofa!

Simple. Leave the kids at home. You'll knock hours off your time  Big Grin .

Thanks for all the tips, very helpful.

I've got a garmin watch that you're supposed to be able to set up training sessions on if I can figure it out.

Probably need to do some hill sessions even though I hate them!

Looks like my local club/organiser is shut down temporarily, will keep an eye on it and see if/when the next 10k comes up.
