Brentford have already managed to replace Maupay with a striker and a winger from France for £10m, and expect to have Lyle Taylor coming in too.

Quite how with 12 months knowledge that Rondon, Gayle and Rodriguez were unlikely to be here this season we've ended up with 48hours left and trying to loan a couple of kids from West Ham is baffling.

It's all shaping up to be a complete and utter disaster at this stage, it looks very much like we've gone after pretty unrealistic targets for a championship club then unsurprisingly been gazumped and found without a decent plan B

TBF have you seen Brentfords succession planning policy and how its scouting and recruitment team work.

Second to none in our division imo. It's the money ball approach I know but they really know their stuff. Pick players up cheap, polish them up, not afraid to sell and when they do it's usually top whack. They always have players identified to come in to continue the cycle.

We could learn a lot from them imo.

They probably asked about Ajeti and got told no immediately. Whereas we probably got a “maybe”.

Duffers', Peachy's, Tartan's and SW4's resonses suggest 4/10 is optimistic...?

Btrentford's succession planning is indeed second to none, but its not the money ball approach. That was purely based on stats in baseball. That's only one aspect of brentford's approach as the stats only method doesn't work in football (McDonut!). They've said this themselves many times but they get labelled moneyball by lazy journo's.

You're right that their approach is very very good though.

Most teams could but it'll only take you to a certain level and that will be the same point we have previously got to in the Prem- upper midtable. It may see us stay at that point for a little longer but I don't see a second tier, or Euro football for us going down that route. Our fans will soon become spoilt little rich kids again demanding the 'next level'. To do that you need a bigger / more ahem ambitious plan like Fosun have with Wolves.

As I will keep saying until my fingers bleed, ask again after the window has shut.

Even better still, ask again a week or two after the window has closed so we have an opportunity to see whoever comes in play first.

Ultimately, it's yet to actually "work" for them - whilst it's true they've churned a consistent profit and have an enviable record of finding and developing players, they're yet to make a real sustained push for promotion.

Their actual scouting system is fantastic, and as has been said, we can learn an awful lot from it, but can you imagine the meltdown on here if we continually bought and sold and steadily slipped down the table?  Their 5 seasons thus far in this league have been 5th, 9th, 10th, 9th, 11th...
