It's often imagined that those who are the most oppressed can't be oppressors.  In my experience, some of those groups can be the most racist/discriminatory in the world.

Indian/Pakistani
Catholics/Protestants
Jews/Muslims
White Middle Aged men/everyone

You missed out Muslims / Muslims as demonstrated each day in places like Syria.

As for the Enlightenment, you need only look at the Evangelist movement in the US to see that going backwards in task time for Christians through religious fundamentalism and that's seeping into the UK, including the CoE.

A reversal of the principles of centuries of progress that have carried forward societal progress for religious reasons related to fundamentalist doctrine related to an Abrahamic religion.

Its people hijacking it to blackmail & control people
Usually poor uneducated that have no hope apart from religion as their lottery ticket
