Derby memories

One that will be forgotten in the realms of distant history is a 1-0 win in a dreadful game around 1978. Ot was a true dirge of a game but with about 5 minutes left someone rattled a shot which hit the bar and Bryan Robson was on the spot to head in the rebound.
Remember the sheer ecstasy winning a game that looked like it would not have seen a goal if it had lasted a week.
There is a beauty in a horrible 1-0 win.

Can’t remember if it was a cup game or playoff game away, Sneekes scored a screamer, we were behind the goal!

It was a league cup first leg game.  Meggo was telling him to pass but Sneekes said in the post match interview "well I never listen to him anyway!"

Aye - they had the whole SME that day.  They rested a few after getting promoted a week or so before

Ashley Ward lives close and he reckons his late equaliser that day was his first Derby goal (after missing countless sitters).  Luckily we went to the other end and bagged in the 90th min

3 future Baggies in the Derby side

heh heh I think we had beat league leaders Leeds on the Saturday.  Saunders got at least 3 IIRC

I'll raise you a 2-0 home win under Saunders  - who bagged?

Super Mac? When he started to put in some beef under the Villa agent (Saunders)

Very good.

That 10,000 odd was our 4th highest league crowd that season.  Name the 3 games that exceeded it

Im guessing due to the sizable away following and in no particular order
Blues
Stoke
Leeds / Pompey

It was the first year I had a season ticket!

Fortunately I had a Saturday job in those days for a couple of years so missed most of the Saunders games. One game i did make was Plymouth at home around Xmas. Around 13k that day. Dull draw as I recall (typical of us under Saunders)

That’s the bugger. Diabolical 0-0 just after Boxing Day.  12,500 on

A loss at Derby, 3-0 was one of the first losses in the Buckley run of defeats.

What was the first defeat In that run.

Correct.

This was a top of the table clash.

We went on a massive run of defeats and Millwall were relegated that season
