He was very naive in the prem to stick to his total football philosophy whilst we were getting pumped 6 nil by Chelsea and Arsenal every week.

We conceded 5 goals once and 4 goals on 3 occasions that season, with 2 of those 4 games being against Man U. Although we finished bottom, we were only 4 points away from safety, so perhaps we weren't as bad as you remember?!  Smile

I vaguely remember it being kinda fun!  Felt pretty good going down having a go. Was pretty obvious quite early we weren't good enough at the back but played some good football at times........I think. It's a bit foggy.

Corberan was good overall. But so often overdid things. Technically when he could from where I sat we were professional as we could be, but it improved and then stymied the achievement in very-much equal measure.

And his subs were shit. Probably because he was too stat-driven. But they were SHIT.

But he did improve us. But what is he he needs to hit top-level? An Arsenal could thrive from a better Corberan, or suck balls in a massive way. An Everton could reach greater heights with a Corberan, or be relegated in horrendous history (they never have been). It’s better he seeks a team he can improve. And I think that that is very much his MOI, right now.

Meanwhile, where, we find ourselves again we have the best coach.

Everton have been relegated - this is a myth even my Evertonian mate clung to until I showed him the league table in 54 when the Dings robbed us of the title. Everton weren’t on it. They dropped in 53 then came straight back up I think. Only Arsenal haven’t gone down since WWII. And they cheated tgeur way into the top flight at Spurs’ expense.

Arsenal never been relegated I think. Not since they joined the FL.

Not quite with Arsenal. They were relegated in 1913, then came War time football which stopped things but Arsenal  finished 5th in the second division.  They were then chosen/voted back into an expanded First Division after WWI and haven’t been relegated since.

Tottenham had finished in the relegation zone with Chelsea.  Chelsea managed to avoid relegation due to Man United match fixing so they had to select another team to take the spare space.  Arsenal leapfrogged a few teams and argued they had greater history as the first Southern team etc.  You can imagine to this there are accusations of how the chairman managed to win that vote… £

For a club that "knows its history", as their song goes, did your mate not know that Everton were second division champions in 1931? They followed this up with the league title in 32 and the FA Cup in 33 which gave them a bit of a unique record.

They have spent 4 years in the second division in total, 30-31 and 51-54 (passing Liverpool who were relegated in 54, another snippet that you'd expect an Evertonian to know).

As I recall many fans were fed up with his refusal to compromise his principals. He is a better coach now though, and think he would approach the Prem differently given another chance

It was tongue in cheek obviously but his refusal to stop playing out from the back instead of just hoofing it as a solid centre half when it was clear we didn't have the players for it was annoying.

When we were in the championship last time with Mogga my view were (it was a while ago):

We conceded a lot of goal in the first 15 minutes before dominating the ball and winning the game (bit similar to the Portsmouth game).
We didn’t concede many goals from open play, but did from corners and last 1/3 free kicks.
Mogga wanted ball playing CHs and was willing to sacrifice the defending side. I think the CH we have now are better defenders but more importantly the game has changed and ball playing CH are now the norm.
One more plus when Mogga came last time he had to teach the players how to pass, this time CC has already done that.
