Tremendous response from our fans when Cyrille replaced the hobbling scruff in the BCD at ours. The 3-2 Bradley canon goal game if irc

Eric on here has a lovely story about meeting Cyrille.

A printed and framed copy of the David Squires cartoon strip hangs in the kitchen. Every day, I nod to Cyrille and give a silent ‘thanks’

Squires is hugely talented, manages to be both funny and poignant when he needs to be.

They say never meet your heroes. He was the exception to the rule, from the Juniors Baggies club to a wedding just a couple of years before he died (and other chance meetings) he was always a gentleman and everything a hero should be.

The reception he got when coming on for The Tatter in 1993 will always stick in my memory and showed just how much he meant to everyone. (It was slightly different to the stick he got when returning with Coventry several years earlier!). When a player wearing orange and black gets a standing ovation from the home fans coming on as a sub you know you've got someone special.

It's excellent. I've not seen it and it brings a lump to the throat about what a pioneer.

I would like to say though, with it being the Guardian, referring to the Three Degrees as a 'crass nickname' is ever so typical humourless Guardian tripe.

The Three Degrees group even took the pitch against Everton with our 3 and there was photos of them with our boys. Not a word then about it being seen in any bad taste - it probably helped the group as well.

It was light-hearted banter and still is to all but the most serious frosty twats looking for offence.

The attention of these 3 players helped by the nickname got people talking about our club, giving it some glamour, and it opened the door for black kids everywhere to think they could be pro footballers.

Thanks for sharing Squid. Brought another tear to my eye reading that.

I was there for his debut and many more of his superb performances and still watch his goals on youtube very often.

He was a complete centre forward and terrorised defenders with his pace and strength.

I wonder if Bomber and him ever measured who had the hardest shot?

I loved him when i was 10 and still do.

My all-time ultimate hero in all senses of the word.

Really interesting about folk's reactions and memorabilia, very similar to mine:

I cried all night after I read on the Evening Mail back page that he'd gone to Coventry.

I was amazed at how affected I was by the news of his passing - still the only famous person I've shed tears at the death of.

And I too only have one Albion player's picture in my house - a signed one of him doing this:[Image: Cyrille-Regis6.jpg]
