For those Baggies of a certain age Astle will always be the king, but for those of us who started going late 70's / early 80's, Big Cyrille is the man.
My first memory of watching us at the shrine was Big Cyrille's goal of the season strike against Norwich. Remember being in tears when he joined Coventry and then again when he passed away. I feel privileged to have watched him, and to call him one of ours.

Cyrille was easily the most exciting and explosive footballer that graced The Hawthorns. Astle will always be king but the big fella and Bomber are worthy princes

I'm 37, so never saw him play. But I always recall holding back the tears on the train from Snowhill listening to Big Dave on WM. I felt emotional for days, and the Saints game will live long in the memory, the club smashed it out the park, in unfortunate circumstances. Incredible impact for a player that played his last game for the club years before I was born, and whom I never saw play.

Never been one for posters and stuff, but I make an exception for this man. The only picture in my office that's not of my wife, daughter or my pets is "Cyrille Regis: A True Hero" from the Birmingham Mail tribute.
When I was a kid watching him tear apart defenders he seemed 10 feet tall. When I met him later in life as an adult, he still did. An absolute legend on and off the pitch. RIP Big Man.

Coincidentally I’ve only got one Albion player picture in my office as well Bob and it’s Cyrille.

The team though.....And fair play to the Saints fans for the respect shown. I suppose I will forgive them now for those few wankers that were baiting us at St.Marys last May.

Worth sharing this again:

Jason Roberts had the only T shirt on under his top and scored the only goal against Walsall in the first game since he left us. I choked when he lifted his top to display the tribute to the king underneath

Agreed. Ironic that the first game after his passing was Everton away. Was gutted when he left for Cov in Oct 84. The incredible things is that his decline continued there and Don Mackay nearly sold him to Wolves for 50k. Regis stayed and went on to have an Indian summer - getting an FA Cup win and another England cap (under Bobby Robson). |
