Absolutely. You could say the same about us leaving the EU which has similar roots and probably the same consequences. I am also reminded of Kinnock and Miliband, two Labour leaders who the UK electorate were never gonna to put in Downing Street. Harris was never gonna win she was hopeless and the Dems have been a shit show for years.

I also think it's about as simple as that.
Wishful thinking as an easy answer to complicated problems. 
Boris had the same schtick..."levelling up", a slogan with little or no substance, "40 new hospitals",etc.

I've seen the thick and stupid stuff, but whilst you can't generalise with a country with over 320m, the simple fact is the most uneducated states is where Trump support was the strongest.

Whilst Proth can show us all the educated people from here, there and everywhere in the good old US of A for whom Trump is their man, it is clear the backbone of his support is the disaffected. 

If it is too sweeping a generalisation that his supporters are thick, although a lot of them clearly are, I think this result speaks volumes for the lack of morals and decent values that must be endemic in America. It does also speak of how bad the Democrats were, which has been well voiced on here.

He is a truly vile character, who is a crook and a gangster. He caused deaths on Capitol Hill. He paid off a porn star. A man reviled as rude, erratic and full of vengeance for his enemies. However, all Proth's decent intelligent mates, as well as the one toothed trailer trash thought he was the guy to represent the highest office in the land.

The mistake that too many people make is to imagine that the USA is a single country - it isn't. It is a nation of states, many of which are more diametrically opposed in ethnic, class, and religious affiliation than most of Europe.. The inhabitants of New Mexico and Arkansas have very little to do with or interest in New York or California and their concerns are similarly disaffected. In many ways it is a failing state while at the same time more economically prosperous than anywhere else on Earth.

It is probably only its sheer financial clout allied to its extraordinary technological ingenuity that maintains the former. And yet with all this, at the same time I have sat in a hotel room in San Francisco unable to get an internet connection due to the infrastructure there being worse than in Moldova. A truly schizophrenic nation reflected in the polarity and disaffection of the two halves of the electorate.
