Being anti-immigration is not necessarily a bad thing. Even I don't think immigration should just be a free for all into the country and that there should be some controls over who can and cannot enter the country but there needs to be rational and intelligent discussion around this.

Sadly there are too many ignorant and racist idiots out there who seem to think that getting rid of all the brown people will solve all their problems. The likes of Farage and Robinson play to these twats.

Playing devil's advocate there have probably been a lot of "intelligent" people talking about this for a long time and have got nowhere. If someone comes in with a binary approach that seems simple then it's going to appeal to some.

I was at the gym earlier and some bloke telling his mate mainstream media got it wrong on Trump.

The term 'mainstream' media appears to me to be one where stories are backed by research and go through legal checks to see they are safe to go out. That's the media I worked in.

Social media and the internet has created a propaganda machine very hard to control and people don't know lies from the truth and haven't the comprehension to want to understand complex debates anyhow. That's how acting a rude buffoon goes down well in America.

There is a legal route; apply for a Visa. I'm sure the UK would love more doctors and engineers (and their families).

Setting up further legal avenues in source countries will not stop the boats.

No, sorry I missed a bit, legal routes to claim asylum before entering the country, and of course, investment into helping break the criminal gangs selling the spaces on said boats.

Our political asylum laws were designed for dissidents from the Eastern Bloc and post-Shah Iran. Not the mass movement of young abled bodied males from sub-Saharan Africa and elsewhere. I doubt setting up legal routes to claim asylum in source countries would be effective on stopping the boats - if it was then someone would've done it already.
