Easter Sunday

Hence, if folk are desperate for a loaf or milk or ciggies and booze, they will find a store open somewhere. No need for the big chains to open.

Remember the days when supermarkets would sheet off the alcohol aisle on Good Friday?

Secondly, as a practicing Christian they shut for Christs birthday, they can shut for his resurrection. I'm pretty sure Alfred or Doris can do without going the shops for one day and observe the Christian (Church of England) backed Trading Laws of this great country!

Rules for large shops in England and Wales - Shops over 280 square metres:

can open on Sundays but only for 6 consecutive hours between 10am and 6pm
must close on Easter Sunday
must close on Christmas Day

You only need to look at the small amount of (generally elderly) people leaving churches on a Sunday, to tell you most people are not practicing Christians.

If you visit Sparkbrook on Easter Sunday, you will se plenty of shops open for business. In fact, last year I'd forgotten something for the dinner I was cooking and popped to Sparkbrook for the item in question, which I purchased from the largest supermarket down there. They were all open.

We could have footie games played on Easter Sunday too.

There has been football on Easter Sunday for years.

It's Man City v Arsenal  this Easter.

Yep.

Sunday trading laws seem pretty pointless to me and would appear to be an easy way to stimulate a bit of extra economic growth, to be topical!

So you reckon 50% of the population go to church more than once every couple of months?   There'd need to be a shit load more churches if circa 30 million people wanted to attend a church that frequently.
