I do the books for a chap that sells models (don't call them toys!) globally, and he dropped them off over the last few days. His market in the EU is reduced to zero this year because he simply isn't competitive any more with the taxes that have to be paid both before sending and by the customer on arrival.

There really is no benefit to having left apart from a theoretical model of a liberalised market with reduced restrictions / regulations that were being 'imposed' by the EU. Those regulations were the same ones that have allowed this country to grow safely and benefitting all with the protections offered.

The company I worked for before this job was a tabletop game company, they've lost nearly 70% of their EU trade now, its been very tough fir them to adapt.

Still waiting for a true, tangible benefit, I don't give a flying fuck about Sovereignty, we always had that.

This was never about benefits it was about belief over reality for the average voter. For those driving the agenda it was about reducing financial, regulatory protections, and workers rights, shrinking the state and imposing libertarian values of selfishness, greed and binary worth based on earnings. By the use of pointing the finger at experts, liberal elites, immigrants, teachers, lecturers, judges and of course the EU etc they succeeded in creating a buffet of bogeymen figures that those who could be persuaded could vote ‘against’.

It worked, but the only people long term who will benefit are those with vested interests in the small state, low tax, deregulated economy that so many on the back benches of this awful government believe and have interest / benefits of becoming reality. Meanwhile it remains to be seen how far average people in the street can continue to believe or be convinced the bogeymen are still there working in the NHS, the Fire Service, in schools, across the channel, can n dinghy’s etc.

Belief is always a stronger weapon in persuading people to do something than reality, something the Remain side of the argument struggled to come up with a counter argument for.

Complete agreement there Derek.

Spot on as ever, DH. I particularly liked "buffet of bogeymen".

4 hours in, I'm still waiting for the usual suspects to wade in on the other side of this debate. That's how it's going to be for the rest of my life, I fear, like the "don't mention the war" motif we've lived with for decades  Dodgy

Firstly, that's bollocks. Secondly, none of that has come to pass. Thirdly, you have a very odd idea about the concept of liberty.

Other than that, all good. Merry Christmas.

As it happens Brexit is going shittily, but that's largely down to a Tory government with an unassailable majority having embraced full-blown Milibandism.

No, it's because it's in its very essence a contradiction. It's very easy to promise the land of milk and honey to anyone and everyone, it's impossible to actually do it.

Excellent post but never underestimate the amount of prolonged effort has gone into gas lighting the masses into voting against their own and their families interests.

The right wing media owners and their lap dog shrill employees have really excelled at defying logic and led the country in the greatest self harm in our history.

That's it ! Blame others for a Brexit that was never achievable; a Brexit that was never defined and a Brexit that was so different for so many Brexiteers !

Yes 'liberty'. If only these new age libertarians but so much effort into changing things for the better in our country like stopping the wealth and us being 'subjects' of an out of date monarchy; if only the libertarians would get a written UK constitution sorted for the benefit of ALL citizens; if only the libertarians would agitate for a better spread of wealth (no just income wealth)............................

Exactly, Brexit was NEVER EVER deliverable for anyone apart from the power hungry agitators that made careers and fortunes.
