Anyone noticed that every time we play twice a week the second game sees us look absolutely knackered and absolutely battered?

Have we not bothered working on basic fitness at all?

Seemed alright last season playing twice a week. It’s not a fitness issue being so much worse than the opposition and having to chase the ball the entire 90 minutes. Lining up on our own 18 yard box and showing no interest in keeping the ball and attacking doesn’t help.

I moaned several times last season we were unfit. And it got somehow worse after lockdown.

Fitness has been a massive issue all season long.

Almost every game we have played we seem to run out of steam after 60 mins.

And the exceptions are games where we have played almost exclusively in our own half for the first 60 mins.

One thing we can control is fitness, we need to be amongst the fittest in the league to make up at least some of the gulf in quality.

The summary of that game for me:

Fittest team in the league versus unfittest

We have been unfit since the last Prem season.

the trouble with fitness TTM is that it can work 2 ways
fitness has all to be about timing you  can peak to early with training
are they being over trained and have not got enough stamina to last 90 mins
not criticising what you are saying but getting players to perform for 90 mins
might be that they are exhausted with there training

Against Liverpool we hardly any possession, however if you are chasing players for 90 minutes, it has to take it out of you. I'm not defending players. Last season we were the protagonists, and had far more of the possession. It's far easier playing with the ball, than without.

For much of last season, there was little between us and Leeds. Just over a year ago, we battered them at Elland Road and were unlucky to lose. They were on another planet tonight. Fitness and bad recruitment were horribly exposed tonight.
