NEW: Understand a deal to bring Filip Krovinovic back to Albion is now very close.
Details here. #WBA @TheAthleticUK

That may be the case, however @WBAFormerAgent17774364 says there's a Portuguese account that reckons he's staying at Benfica.

So I don't know who to believe

He is staying at Benfica in a way signing an extension to his contract until 2023. But Benfica are loaning him out to WBA for the season. That is to protect his value of €10mill . There is no buy clause at the end of loan. We would only offer €6 mill so that’s how we got around the impasse.

I’m personally a little miffed that we’ve negotiated for so long but don’t have a buy option.

I’m not.

If we stay up, I don’t doubt we’ll pay the 10mill they want. If we go down, we are not obligated to purchase him. Win, win.

Agree.

If Krov has a fantastic season with us this year and we survive, then they will no doubt hike his price, but given the likely financial impacts of Covid in the next 12 months I’d anticipate his value will be lower than €10M regardless of how he performs come July.

In a normal season, with values increasing exponentially year on year I’d be disappointed if we hadn’t arranged a future price, but this year paying a €2-3M loan fee and seeing what the future holds is probably a gamble worth taking.

I'm absolutely fine with that, with one question: Does this mean we can't loan any more players? The response seems to go back and forth but my understanding is that we're only allowed 2 from anywhere

No it’s 2 domestic - think a lot of us were confused on this one!
Can have up to 5 in a match day squad.

And we'll be back to square 1 when we want to sign him next year to aid our promotion push. They want 10, we want to pay 6. Ad infinitum.
