I'm not a great believer in the honours system, but surely the whole of that '66 World Cup winning side should have been knighted rather than just a select few.
Peters was the man who was a minute away from being our match-winner. He was noted as much for his blindside runs as for what he did on the ball. Another hero gone. RIP Martin.

Bloody hell I am old enough to remember watching the 66 final and he was always the graceful epitome of a footballer who knew how to be in the right place at the right time.

I remember watching him a couple of times at The Hawthorns for Norwich when I was kid.
I didn't realise then what a privilege it was to watch a guy who scored and played in a World Cup final for England at my ground. RIP Martin. |
