He - David Nicholl, that is - wasn't asked about 'political matters' or international trade; he was asked about the implications of disrupted supplies or shortfalls, should they occur.

Yeah experts asked by the government to give their expert advice on a subject they are experts in, to tell them what they believe in their expert opinion may happen in the case of a no deal Brexit are ill equipped to answer the questions the government asked of them!

Doff’s cap at his better...
Asking people like him for advice is just a publicitly stunt for the naieve to swallow. Yes he may be good at nuerosurgery or whatever but wtf does he know about international trade?

Why would you need an expert neurosurgeon to tell you that IF supply was disrupted, there would be less of something?
Of course none of this had anything to do with remainer politicians putting together groups and committees to ratchet up on project fear.
Even Dereks new love Ken, let’s all join the Euro, Clarke has admitted the U.K. would get through a no deal Brexit

Experts were asked by the government presumably you voted for to answer the questions they had put to them. He gave his answer on the subject he is a specialist in, which is why he was asked.

Btw I’ve stated many times that I like Ken Clarke and I’ve also stated I don’t like Jeremy Corbyn it is possible to form your own opinion politically without supporting a party like it’s your favourite football team.

Hold on, have i misunderstood here? Wasn't he asked by the government to sit on the panel to explain the consequences of the shortfalls should they occur. And wasn't he part of the group that created the yellowhammer document for the government. The document spelt out where the risks were and what the consequences would be.
The document was then subsequently leaked and the government said it was a load of crap because it would scare the people.

The very one which Gove said was an old document which subsequently was shown to be a lie. Currently I suspect they are hurriedly rewriting it to be more palatable.
