Reading - Next Wednesday
#1
Six days to go till kick off. Looking highly unlikely to match the Millwall league attendance and looking unlikely to match last seasons attendance for the same fixture. Given Reading only sold 900 for a Saturday 3pm kick off last season I expect a small turn out from them maybe 500 or so. Surely the home support will clear 20,000. At this stage I'd estimate a gate of 20,500 - 21,000.

Smethwick:         21
West Stand:       547
Brummie Road:  1,819
East Stand:        2,001

Remaining:   4,388

Sold: 19,100 approx.

Last Season:

Attendance: 22,865
Home: 21,958
Away: 907

Build it and they will be on holiday, can’t sit with a hundred of their mates, don’t like lager, midweek game, BBQ arranged, Jenkins and Dowling are rotten to the core etc.

Looks like a disappointing crowd. A club the size and stature of WBA should now be averaging around 24,000. We had 8 years of top flight football to build more of a fan base. We ultimately failed as a football club.

We should by 2020, have had a 32,000 Stadium with an average of around 25k minimum.

I believe so. As throughout history we lacked a visionary board IMO. Time to expand was between 2008-2011.
We can’t really call ourselves a big club IMO.

So many chances to propel the club but we just didn’t want to

History suggests that this is who we are as a club. Our support is fickle we can sell out for the big / important games but it’s never consistent as all the data over the years suggests. Let’s not try and skew things by looking back to the 50s and 60s those days are long gone.

Understand that but we all know we should have done much better over that period re the ground, fan base, ambition etc.
There really wasn’t the will at the top to speculate even slightly to grow the ‘product’ and leave a legacy. We are now slipping slowly back towards the mid Champ club some people feel more comfortable supporting for some reason. Peace ran the club to match and maximise his benefit which probably precluded potential owners from buying us up and investing (they’d have to buy at our max price leaving little over for investment).
The fans seem to be easily content with our lot compared to the ambition and expectations of our close rivals. Galling to see clubs like Leicester and Brighton race ahead of us and growing their fan base and new stadia.
Last season was our best attempt to get back up with subsequent seasons seeing diminishing chances under the present regime.

Not on holidy ( I live here  Big Grin ) Sit with my Son, can't drink because driving, time booked off for midweek games, too bleddy wet for a barbie, don't give a toss about Jenkins or Dowling. I'll be there.
