Players you've (genuinely) paid to watch

Tbh honest I didn't pay to see a player either but I was at Hampden to see Scotland play Argentina in 1979 with an old kilt-wearing teacher mate. Maradona turned out - never heard of him - and turned Scotland inside out. Ran from before the halfway line beating four players - leaving George Burley on his arse in the process - before passing to Luque to score in the penalty box. Hit the bar from 40-odd yards out before scoring the last in a 3-1 victory. AND he'd been left out the side that won the World Cup the year before! The best individual display I've ever seen.

Sublime.  Fair play to the Jocks, they applauded them off the pitch.

Was working in Madrid and got a ticket for RM v Barca in Copa Del Rai . Messi, Rinaldo, Iniesta, et Al.
€100 off a tout, worth every penny. Best player that night, Iniesta…

Dalgleish was one of the best I've ever seen.

I agree, think he’s the best British player I’ve seen.

Went to watch Big C at Villa Park in his Coventry days. Final day of the season and I went with a Bluenose  in the away end with the Cov fans.A Cov win would have sent Villa down but sadly ended 1-1 and they stayed up. Dave Smith also played that day but I certainly wouldn’t pay to watch him.

George Best went to Seal park to watch him play in a semi final against Leeds. He did nothing as Paul Reaney had him in his pocket all night.
