Players you've (genuinely) paid to watch
#1
I was talking to my brother who has this annoying tendency to say that any player who can pass a ball three yards is 'worth the gate money' and it set me thinking about who I have actually paid to go to see - in a game that didn't involve The Albion - and I can only think of three:

1. Willie Johnston: I loved him when he was with us, and so stood at the Blues for a night game when he turned out for them a few years later.

Still feel itchy thinking about it.

2. Frank Worthington: Same - he was playing for the Blues and the was the only reason I went.

I've always put failing my A Levels down to the damage being 'among them' did to my IQ

3. Bergkamp: I was living in London and went to watch him look disinterested for an hour and get substituted.

So, not sure it is worth the effort, probably won't bother again. Cool

Whilst up in Manchester I went to see United a couple of times specifically to watch Paul Scholes.

Absolute Rolls Royce of a footballer.

I can count on one hand games I've been to that didn't involve Albion.

I went to watch Hertha vs Bayern at the Olympiastadion. So saw Schweinsteiger, Lahm and Ribery among others, but I'd have gone irrespective of who they were playing.

Monaco v Swansea I think in the cup winners cup as I was there on business. George Weah was impressive.

My Dad took me to Seal Park in 1983 to watch the great Juventus side beat the shite 1-2
Zoff, Gentile, Bettega, Platini, Tardelli, Boniek, Rossi. Worth every penny

2003 Champions League Final

Star studded line ups

0-0 at full time

0-0 at extra time

Milan won on penalties

Made the BBC Breakfast News main story the following morning when we gatecrashed some AC fans celebrating. Was front central in an Albion shirt.

The teams that night were incredible:

Me and my Dad went to see Tottenham at the Villa in 90/91 to see Gazza at his very peak.

Loved watching Gazza play. Always wanted the ball. Such superb close control.

McGrath at villa, amazing player. Le Tiss at villa (I keep quiet about that now). The Liverpool team of the mid 70s, great team play.
