Brummagem

My dad and grandad always did. Especially the football. Our talk was always Albion and Wolves with a rare odd mention of 'the viller', if ever I asked about blues I got a standard reply. " Issa sherm for poor ode brumigem, they aye never won nuthin'.."
The city was always referred to as gooin' over Brumigem. Normally followed by "they've bin buildin' it fer 'ears an' it still ay finished".

It was quite a common term in Redditch by the oldies when I was young.

Coming from Oldbury, all my older relatives would say "Brummagen" or "Town". I respise anyone who calls it "Birminam".

Always been Brummagem for me (in Smethwick).

Often followed by the word 'somewhere'.

That made me feel physically sick - and not because of the references to the Bluesnoses.

Yup, as an Oldbury lad  it was always just heading into "town" for a big night. Maybe "Brum" if it was just for a shopping trip, which could be considered an abbreviation I guess.

The football team has always been an irrelevance to me (no offence meant KRO) and barely associated with the place. Only really pay them attention when they are strumping us at home.

And yes "Birminham" no g....makes me want to puke.
