Terrible news.
Agree with many .. second only to Foster as our custodian.
Strength and best wishes to him and his family.

Very sad, can still see him leaping like a salmon in 2001-2002 to save some goal bound shot, wishing you peace Russel

We would never have had that incredible and unforgettable season without Houlty.

Have never had more confidence in a keeper at The Albion, before or after him.

I know the rest of the team played their part but there were times that season when it felt like our goal was bricked up. Feeling so sad for Russell and his family at this time yet happy to reminisce those wonderful yesterdays we as supporters had the privilege of sharing with our team.

I might be alone saying this (and whilst it's not the thread to debate it, it is the thread to say it): I always felt more assured when Houlty was in goal than Foster. The man was unplayable in that promotion season.

Here's hoping for a calm and pain free passing. I've donated and will be incredibly sad when the time comes.

Same. At his peak he was a better keeper than Foster. I just don’t bother posting it cos it’ll get pelters and misty eyes.

It’s a positive post cos they were both ace

Hoult was the foundation of that solid spine Megson built at Albion, that eventually evolved to bear sufficient fruit that would give rise to the best years in our modern history. SGM was determined to bring him in, even though it appeared that we didn’t need him at the time. What followed was him becoming an absolute hero, and very much a legend as part of a very much upward curve during our rich and varied legacy.

I wish him all the best.
