The University of Manchester has denied banning or scrapping certain words
However, they have recommended 'given guidance' to suggesting these phrases therefore it is a worthy story that stands upand run by the BBC, not the Daily Mail.
We live in strange and worrying times. Free speech is virtually over due to hypersensitivity.
Hardly denying free speech though, is it?
Some suggestions that have been around and used without a problem eg parent or guardian.
Moreover, whilst the list of suggestions goes beyond what I think is necessary, I think it's quite helpful. People have got used to saying "their" instead of "his" where the context is plurality but the male form is used initially. This is little different.
Duffers - the gif....
I’m going to ask Birdy if he permanently change Spandau’s user pic to this.
Would save me a lot of time...

‘Dear Parent/Guardian’ has been pretty much commonplace since I was at school. Nothing news really, other than bad press for a Uni already under-fire over enticing students back to its halls and telling them to stay there.

It has had many re-writes, or rathe,r many versions. The Kings James version which most of us of a certain age are familiar is more poetic than precise.
You need to go back to the original texts (Hebrew Aramaic and Greek I think) to find out "the truth".

I went to school in the late 90s-early 00s and 'Parent/Guardian' was always the term used on correspondence, an absolute non-story.

No they're going to be exactly the same songs and you will sing them in the same way, these words aren't being banned this is just advice on how to tread carefully.
Let me explain with my example and my kids.
I'm not the Dad of my kids (sounds odd I know) but my two lost their Dad when they were young and I stepped in some time later. For my daughter who was younger Dad has never been a problem, but for my lad the word Dad caused him upset. Whenever we were in a shop and someone would refer to me as his Dad, I would pass it off with a joke by saying No but I am the next best thing. So if you were talking to my lad now it wouldn't necessarily be a problem that he couldn't talk round (he's in his 30s now), but at the time he went to Uni it could have been upsetting at an awkward time in his life.
The advice given is to tread carefully with words, so don't be a dick and get all offended because you wouldn't be offended about something that wouldn't affect you.

I'm 63. It's been used from before my biirth.
Non-story but annoys old men, so worth publication....!

Parent/guardian was used as a cover all not to avoid offending.

I've not finished it, but I presume in The Good News Bible the ending is not so sad I do like a happy ending.
