No, sorry I missed a bit, legal routes to claim asylum before entering the country, and of course, investment into helping break the criminal gangs selling the spaces on said boats.

Our political asylum laws were designed for dissidents from the Eastern Bloc and post-Shah Iran. Not the mass movement of young abled bodied males from sub-Saharan Africa and elsewhere. I doubt setting up legal routes to claim asylum in source countries would be effective on stopping the boats - if it was then someone would've done it already.
