I don't think Lai intended to plunder the coffers. He was simply sold a dud. JP did nothing pro-active in the years before the sale, he simply tried to keep the value of the club as high as he could without further investment. Lai was advised by Peace to bring in the incompetent Williams and his mate. Probably told Pulis does not get anyone relegated, ever. Then Lai watched as Pulis burned through the cash on the likes of Greg and Burke. Our new owners are a disaster for a club of our size but they are not the entire problem. We have been drifting aimlessly for a good few years.(12-21-2023, 10:47 PM)Remi_Moses Wrote: All these financial problems are directly the fault of Lai.
We should always be a buying / selling club, remembering most championship clubs lose £25m a season we are no different. But we don't have an owner to support us, just a bunch of thieves.
We have not sold players when their value has increased for years. Bar Pereira (which was a suspect sale) and Dara who was more of a forced sale
All in all we have been in mess since the day we were sold.
We have to accept players coming and going to balance the books is normal.
Investment in good management and scouting in our situation has to be the priority.
This was the problem for 3 years before Lai and his 999 investors come along. They just kept the status quo, then tipped their grubby mitts in the pot when the world got tough.
I struggle to get too mad. I would have probably done the same if I owned a business I know nothing about, have no feelings for, or allegiance too.
Sooner they are away from the club the better, let's just hope we get good 'ens next time.
I'm inclined to agree with this. The money wasted on just those two could have been to much better use. Hopefully we'll be able to look back on this decade of decline from a better standpoint soon.
