There is a simple solution to the outrageous Tuition Fees trap. Impose a Graduate Tax for ALL graduates.

Though I can’t see that being popular with centrist Dads and grandads who benefitted from free University education.

Why they didn't do this in the first place, I will never know. Surely far cheaper from an administrative perspective and wouldn't be as off-putting to potential students.

Because it would have taxed a lot of middle class Labour voters from 1998 onwards.

The system is an absolute shambles. The retrospective changes are unfair and discriminatory.

It's an inane political decision

The ONS states that of £16 billion of loans generate £30 billion of interest; the resulting £46 billion total liability is split into £18 billion repaid and £28 billion written off after 30 years.

The taxpayer pays £28Bn instead of £18Bn had it been a grant!

CIM misses the point entirely - if we reduce, or remove, trade barriers with anyone then our trade with them will increase (or even if it doesn't we will have less costs therefore more profit) therefore we will have growth. It doesn't depend on the growth of the country / body that we are trading with.

I think that was based on purchasing power, not full amount, but it's still a valid point.

A new trade union between UK and the EU boosts both sides, and with Canada and Australia sniffing around, it's a complete no brainer for the UK, EU, Canada and Aus/NZ to align closer on economy, defence and migration.  I'd even go as far as having our own version of the G7 without the US being invited.
