St Andrews memories

I went to the 3-0 win there in 92. Supes brace and Gary Robson. They weren't a happy bunch that day. I remember they had netting that stretched down from the roof to the ground presumably to stop the Zulus throwing things. A load of them all congregating down one corner late on and it looked like there was going to be a pitch invasion.

Bit moody after that one....

I was at that in November 01. It was the promotion season and a huge result. It’s as good a memory as the 3-0 under Barmy

Worst one was the 0-2 at Christmas under Burky in the snow.

The 4-0 loss under Alecan the worst I’ve ever seen there by some distance.

We also drew 1-1 when Ellington equalised but were starting a descent to the trap door

We absolutely murdered them in that 2006 game…. We didn’t win again that season

We played there just after BFR buggered off to Spain and Talbot took charge for this first game.
Des Bremner opened the scoring to put Blues one up with an excellent long range shot. Baggies then scored 4 without reply. I think Bobby Hopkins scored one, possibly two I can't remember exactly. It annoyed the Blues fans, I know that much. Small Heath resounded to the sounds of "Brian Talbot's blue and white army".

Mid 70s, going with a couple of Blues supporting school mates v Leeds... Mentalists aots.

Early 80s, complimentary seats among bluenoses, my mate jumping up after Martyn Bennet scored. That was a bit dodgy.

that was the most ridiculous game ever.  It was about minus 4C with an ice rink of a pitch and would never be played today due to the real danger of every player breaking limbs.  

If I remember correctly we were on the verge of relegation and about ten minutes from the end we got a corner at the Tillton Road end. Up until then Blues had played us off the park but had missed several open goals to go ahead.  The ball came over and there was a scramble in the box. Martyn Bennet facing away from the goal, swung a leg at the bouncing ball and it went over his head and into the net.  The fluckiest goal ever and a vital away win.  

I used to love standing on the Tilton Road end with the occasional punch up with the Zulu lot who were real head bangers. 

I lived in Moseley at the time so it was a short journey home.

I wasn't there but my dad and brother went to St Andrews for our final game in the top flight in 73. We were already relegated. The King and Wile put us 2-1 up before two Blues goals in the last 10 mins gave Blues a 3-2 victory.

It was the last game of the terraces at the Railway End.

I wasn't there but my dad and brother went to St Andrews for our final game in the top flight in 73. We were already relegated. The King and Wile put us 2-1 up before two Blues goals in the last 10 mins gave Blues a 3-2 victory.

1-0 win during Atkinsons second spell, night game and a return of the Green and Yellow, Hopkins with the goal.

Remember that one well. A resounding win. I also remember the 4 0 defeat in one of our relegation seasons, we also lost 3 0 at boro the following week and I seriously questioned whether I ought to find something better to do on Saturdays. Favourite was the penalties win in some daft cup. We only went as we had free tickets, Barry Fry had made 100 signings and the Albion fans were singing "More players. You've got more players than fans, you've got more players than fans...."

It was a performance similar to some under Mason this season. No matter how good it looked on paper you knew we’d find a way not to win and were headed for the trapdoor. I think at the time Blues and Pompey were deep in trouble but starting to find ways to win

The fact they had a man sent off didn’t improve the mood, was sat in seats with Blooze fans and my v pissed brother jumped up when we scored.  Few punches thrown but luckily we were there with a blues mates who escorted us safely to the concourse where we watched the rest of the game standing close by police.  I was sure the mob in the corner were going to invade the pitch, which they actually did the following home game against Stoke.  Story goes the pitch invaders were a bunch of young kids, who completely fucked things up for older Zulus who’d taken a beating on their away trip to Stoke.  The zulus organised tools in multiple car boots to be available after the game to take revenge on the Stoke firm.  Because of the pitch invasion the Police held the stoke lot back after the game and ruined the Zulu plan, they weren’t happy and some of their youth took a bit of a hiding instead if the stoke lot.  Ah those were the days.
