St Andrews memories

Loved to visit St Andrews, only seen us lose there once but my first visit was back in 76 just after we had been promoted. Blues had a really good team at the time and had won their previous home game 2-1 against L'pool in front of a crowd over 33,000 (Francis and Gallagher for the blues) needless to say we won 1-0 can't remember the scorer, but got a kicking on the way out though nothing too bad! Ian Edwards played for us that day and Giles was on the bench, Kenny Burns, Archie Styles, Kenny Hibbitt and Howard Kendall were all playing for Blues, don't think they've had a better team since tbh.

I also saw us beat them 3-0 under Barmy Bobby '92 I think?

My dad worked for a steel stockholder in Birmingham and in the early 70s before I was a definite baggie we used to go very frequently to the blues with free tickets we even went in the executive boxes occasionally.Trevor Francis was a young wonder kid and they had a good team I remember but were always flirting with relegation. My dad being from Yorkshire was a Leeds fan.I think I was swung towards the Albion by a relative who gave me an old blue and white Albion top which I loved and a poster of asa Hartford who wore white football boots which I thought was pretty cool.

Mid 70s, going with a couple of Blues supporting school mates v Leeds... Mentalists aots.

Early 80s, complimentary seats among bluenoses, my mate jumping up after Martyn Bennet scored. That was a bit dodgy.

4-1 under Talbot, 3-0 under Gould, Anglo Italian cup on pennos, 3-2 Bob Taylor (88), 1-0 the season we only won 4 games, 3-2 Austin double. A lot of good memories

Not sure of the year but me and my son were in the home end and AJ scored in a 1-0 , we had to nudge each other in celebration of the goal and on the way in we ran into someone who knew we were Albion but just smiled and and said ‘aright

Night match under Megson, possibly the play off season?

I was at that in November 01. It was the promotion season and a huge result. It’s as good a memory as the 3-0 under Barmy

Worst one was the 0-2 at Christmas under Burky in the snow.

I wasn't there but my dad and brother went to St Andrews for our final game in the top flight in 73. We were already relegated. The King and Wile put us 2-1 up before two Blues goals in the last 10 mins gave Blues a 3-2 victory.

It was the last game of the terraces at the Railway End.
