Next manager, just remember

It's all a process. I interviewed candidates for a sales job a year ago and whittled it down to two really good candidates. It was a tough decision but after the final interviews I felt one was clearly ahead of the other. Offered them the job, they accepted, and then 72 hours later they emailed to say they'd been offered another position they'd prefer.

I was pissed off obviously but called up my second option, discussed the situation and the reasons for them just missing out, they accepted them, and a year on they are absolutely smashing it and I couldn't have wished for anyone better. The few reservations I had about them initially were totally wrong.

No one knew anything about Wicky until last week. He could have been the next Pep but he could easily have been just another Johnny foreigner championship manager failed punt. This league has been littered with them over the years.

How we've come about getting Mogga doesn't matter. He won't give a shit. He's far too long in the tooth to worry about semantics. We have a class manager and I'm glad he's back. I think he's what we need for the next few seasons too. He manages upwards well. He's humble and respectful and I'd imagine him and Shilen will get on well.

Clubs are often forced to look at alternatives to their first choice, that's just the nature of the business.

Most players/managers will have experienced this at some point in their careers so I'm not sure how hung up anyone should get on this.

Correct pal.
Mowbray was spoken to at the start. Did that make him or any other first choice? No.
Did we take conversations further with Wicky? Yes.  Did it work out? No.  Like any other business you then look at your chosen field. Stars aligned this week with other issues.

It’s brilliant.

As I said, the only difference in football is that things get played out in the media and people form opinions early. Some valid and some which are completely mis-informed.

Personally as people already know, I’m thrilled it’s Mowbray. Absolutely buzzing.

Maybe there wasn’t a first choice and they were just open to speaking to people from a variety of options?
In the form of his life.

Moving past the hyperbole and hysteria around TMs return, like any other manager he will be judged on results. That is something to remember…

He said in his interview that he has been approached over the last few months and has been clear with clubs that the earliest he’d consider coming back is following his scans this week.

Maybe they approached TM originally and he responded with the above so we continued with our search and circumstance means we’ve been able to go back to him. Or maybe he’s become available at some point in the process. Who knows.
