Trump
I don't think it does just come down to economy and immigration. For a lot of people it does, but there are a section of the male population who will be turned off Kamala because they don't think a woman would make a good president. This is reflected in the wildly different percentages of the male/female vote. There's also another group who like what Trump represents, which is being able to say or do what you want without any real consequence, and a further group that don't like politicians and don't see Trump as a politician.

For some people "He says what he thinks and I like that' is as far as they go with their analysis when choosing a president. 100%

What do people want?

They can't always have it, and sometimes it's not what's actually going to work? And it may not be what others want.

I want a liberal, modern, diverse place to live. I want people to have good education with absolutely no mention of religion other than purely as old myths. I want fair and equal choice as people leave school to go into further education or apprentice to a trade, both are valuable.

I want good healthcare free at point of need for all, I also think, rationally, that healthcare needs to make some hard choices, and certain things have to be done privately since they aren't under the remit of the NHS. I also want the NHS reformed a fair bit.

I want a good, sensible safety net for people put of work, and also the ability for those unable to work due to disability and ill health to be able to survive without unnecessary struggle. Those in work should enjoy the fruits of their labour by fair and representative pay that allows them to live, not just barely survive.

I have no issue with immigration, it needs control and I want the gangs selling spaces on boats to people who are just wanting a better life to be stopped and in prison. Me ruining prison, I want a fair and just justice system that rehabilitates where it can, and punishes where needed.

All these things are complex and simple.slogams.dony cover them, they need well thought out plans which take time and effort.

Simple catch line phrases that don't really explain anything don't do it for me, and therefore the likes.of Farage does not, and never will represent me.

Have you ever considered that others might live in different circumstances and want different changes as a result? Personally I think Trump is a swivel eyed loon that made me feel ill watching him gloat this morning but I haven't lived in America the last 8 years so don't know how it is for up to half their population. This country is very Liberal but some are having to cope with the results more than others. Wrongly they identify causes for their struggles and react. Nearly 200 of about 300 inhabitants of the Bibby Stockholm were recently spirited to Wolverhampton. Do you think the citizens were consulted about it? Do you think Bridgnorth or Ironbridge was ever considered as a destination for them? 99.9% of people are tolerant till pushed to the edge. Virtually no one says chuck em all out or ban em all lots are now saying hold on a minute it's getting out of control now. Control is all the majority are calling for despite other claims on here

That's sort of my point  Smile

Thing is, slogans and promises of a quick fix based on them doesn't solve anyone's issues.

Cheap and Lazy.

Riddle me this then, I had a chat around the bar of rooftop pool in Charleston with a guy who runs sports for kids in 16 states in the US, had an Ivy League education and is a scion of a huge Canadian investment firm. Trump is his guy. The conversation opened up to a half dozen others who seemed pretty cogent. Trump was their guy. A young woman employed by Hilton came around to chat to us about bookings for 2025 Trump was her guy, immigrant cab drivers in Atlanta - Trump was their guy.

It comes down to the economy and immigration. Everything else is just noise.

Well I see we're all taking the election result well. Groupthink has a lot to answer for I guess. Prime example the Selzer poll last week. Ended up being 17 points out but latched onto by never-Trump folk like a life jacket on the Titanic. There's a clip of Rory Stewart (which with no hint of irony his own podcast has clipped up and published) doing the rounds which sums far too many people up imo, utter self delusion and wildly out of touch: Here

The Dems made a litany of missteps, and this is just off the top of my sleep deprived head, weaponising the judiciary against Trump,  he was a footnote until that mugshot; latterly hiding Biden's cognitive decline, then doubling down and proceeding with the primary, pulling him out too late, installing an unelectable candidate without any democratic process, who cant answer a question without a teleprompter, ducked interviews, giggled and freestyled her way through the softballs she did agree to take, had no track record of success or excellence in previous roles. Picking an extremely strange character as running mate. Providing no policy aside from 'Trump bad Hitler man'. Not distancing themselves from Biden's record despite his popularity rating tanking. All this against a backdrop of the network media machine providing an approx 80 percent positive narrative around her campaign, Hollywood stars and other celebrities endorsing her constantly and consistently, comfortably outspending the GOP campaign. It's failure on an epic scale. There has to be some serious introspection done because Trump has unfettered power as they also have both houses. It could be a generation before the Democrats are in a position to challenge again and it's entirely self inflicted.

Further, If you don't see this result as an absolute rejection of liberal ideologies, leftism generally and despite my disdain for the word, wokery then no lessons will be learned.

As an aside, absolutely mental we still haven't heard from her.

No they aren't, and I don't see them getting better any time soon. No one has the guts to do what's needed since they'll never be elected on it, ever.
