Trump
If Taylor Swift can influence the USA election then God help us. It's like Clapton supporting Hamas and playing a guitar painted in Palestinian flag on his last tour.

Nothing like.  She just said who she would vote for and why.

Have you seen the shift in voting from her 200m insta followers.

This is a big deal  Trump tried to claim via AI that she supported Trump. This is a game changer.

Her aim is to get young people to register to vote.  Far more insidious than the Swifties is the trump-musk relationship - that really does take the world down a dark information path.

I'm not comfortable with celebrities with a massive fan base, and dare I say cult like following, using their status and social media to tell us who they're aligning with politically, and why.

I've absolutely no doubt Taylor Swift's intentions are nothing but good, but the fact is there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, who will vote for a candidate just because Taylor has. Now, any vote against Trump should be encouraged, I'm not denying that. But the wider picture is that we're dangerously close to letting mega stars dictate who their fans vote for. Unintentionally, or otherwise. That's something that doesn't sit right with me. Regardless of how many votes go against that floppy haired racist nutjob.

I understand that celebrities advocating for one political party or an other is nothing new, but with social media it feels like it's more dangerous than ever.

Maybe, but it's not the same thing as comparing her to Clapton's schtick.

Even worse if they team up with Ted Nugent!!!  (He has been an arsehole for fifty years!)

My nan who's been dead for 10 years could do a better job. Going to be a shit show regardless what who wins, of that I have no doubt but whatever.

Being a Baggies fan for over 15 years now and a special education teacher, am used to ups and downs and stress haha, so we will see what happens.

Surely you can't be lumping Trump and Harris together with the tired old 'They're all as bad as each other' refrain. Nobody is nearly as bad as Trump. Harris came out as an articulate person who has the best interests of the American people at heart. Trump, the convicted felon, showed that he was a compulsive liar who only has the best interests of Donald J Trump at heart. There is absolutely no comparison.

My thoughts, exactly.

Then again, I was just reading an article featuring some elderly lass in the post-industrial backwashes of Michigan who said that whilst she admired Harris in the debate, she'd probably vote for trump as "he was a man of his word" and that, although "he had done some wrong things, he should be forgiven".... at which point you have to factor in the extensive reach of Fox in the US and realise that many people only receive the sanitized version of trump. Depressingly the way of the world and very close to the state-controlled propaganda we scoff at in places like Russia.

And for "sanitised" we can infer "untrue"! Quite how so many people live in a bubble which enables them to avoid learning the truth about Trump is weird.

I suppose, demonstrably being members of a cult, they've all learned to believe anything he says over what anyone/everyone else says pretty much all of the time. It doesn't reflect well on the US as a country that this particular cult has so many members, particularly when it goes against all reason.

If you're unsure about the cult thing, videos like this and this should set you straight!

Bra fucking vo!

That’s a big deal for Harris. Swift is one of the most influential people in America right now.

It'll also shift a few more votes Trump's way.

Probably not.

The endorsement of someone as hugely influential as her, with a good wholesome image is worth an enormous amount. I don't think I even know one song by her and my 20 year old daughter despises her, but it still doesn't change our opinions on Trump.

Simply a few states will decide this election and if Trump get's back in power it'll be based on those who probably will be deeply unhappy with both parties and vote for what they see as the lesser of two evils.

As appalling as Trump is his message does resonate with many that they are now living in a place that has changed around them, with jobs gone, immigrants galore and a feeling of loss of opportunity.

Harris needs to talk to these people and say how she's going to give them hope and if she can convey that she'll win. In many ways it's pretty identical to what we had here a few months ago.
I had commentators say Harris was a terrible speaker, which I doubted have been a prosecutor, so I watched the debate with a bit of apprehension, but she hammered him and he looked like the joke he is.

I don't know why Carolina baggie would be embarrassed by both candidates as she has not done anything wrong yet imo.

I wonder if she'll shaft her pensioners too, like Labour did then gave Ukraine £700m less than 24 hours later.

I hate Putin and the War in Ukraine but I hope all this money going to them from the start have been in the form of loans.

Not that long ago we finished paying our loans to America for the second world war, so if we have this £20bn black hole in the finances and the first installment of filling the hole is to hammer pensioners, it's not right to keep on throwing money at Ukraine without ever getting it back.
