Fun fact of the day. Richie Barker was an utter, utter dickhead.

Why

Because we were playing some of the best football ever and getting some really good results with one of the best midfield units in the country, containing Sammy Mcllroy, Mickey Thomas, Mark Chamberlain and Paul Bracewell, then in pre-season, Barker went on a course extolling the virtues of POMO (position of maximum opportunity), which basically involved booting the ball up to the strikers and bypassing the midfield.

It was being used very successfully by Graham Taylor at Watford who had a team built for it. Barker thought this sounded a real hoot. He was sacked 5 months later with us rooted to the bottom of the league.

Ahh - whatever happened to Mark Chamberlain, thought he was destined for great things.

His brother, Neville, services burglar alarms. He has been to my mom and dad's twice and he's a good bloke according to my dad.

Stockport away, Man City at home

Yes - after RH left.

Close....

Not sure memory says Harford left December and his eventual replacement was Denis Smith. Have to be honest I thought there was more than 2 games between his departure and Smith's appointment. Did we have another caretaker manager.

Dates and season dead right - just the wrong 2 games.....

Huddersfield and Stockport. We lost 0-2 v 'udders. Saturday before Christmas and Mick Mills was Stoke manager when we drew 1-1 in '86. was

He signed for us at the same time as Mark. From memory, he was a decent player for Port Vale and his career would probably have been better served by staying there. He just wasn't quite up to it for us.

Maybe a case of history repeating itself with Mark's two children, with one being at Liverpool and the other at Notts County.
