Using a cafetière when there’s only one of you drinking it (neither of my kids like coffee much) is simply too much ballache, and one of those posh machines simply looks like a subscription model in the making. A bit like modern printers.

If you like the Al jazera that nescafe do, then you'll love the much cheaper Aldi version (in a can with orange lid)

Lidl do a version as well which is equally as good. I have a tin, but in decaf form. My blood pressure issues mean i only have two proper coffees a day.

I actually tried it, and didn’t like it as much. I often wonder if this ‘well, it’s probably made in the same factory’ argument is indeed true, it’s just that with the LIDL version you get the stuff that’s either clogged in the machine, or perhaps swept up off the floor.

I used to work in food testing and can confirm there are loads of products made in the same place and with the almost exact ingredients, some do slight variations, e.g. M&S tend to lower fat and increase sugar, others do the opposite.

I've got a De Longhi espresso machine, and I use it for a treat when I can be arsed or if I get visitors, otherwise I just use instant.

It's just a hot drink. I had to buy 2 coffees by Grays Inn last week, nearly £9!!!! Madness. I'll pay less for 2 beers in an hour or so.
