Just seen them demolish Villa. Amazing what billions of pounds and breaking financial rules can do.
Until the premier league looks after the league rather than a few clubs then the disparity and disillusionment for fans of normal clubs will continue.
I recall that 4-0 on Match of the Day. Think Robson got 2.
Man City could easily be Leeds or Sunderland now except for oil money.
And a Commonwealth Games  stadium. What did the last games do for the Midlands other than a fucking bull in New Street?

Brought world class sports to the region and provided timeless memories for those who witnessed it.

The cycling, for example, was surreal. We had some of the greatest riders ever - true legends - riding through the heart of the Black Country.

Given there's a chance it may be the last ever Commonwealth Games, it was rather a good one.

The sport was great, no question. But every other UK city that has hosted a landmark games has received a lasting legacy of a new build or massively improved stadium. We got a few extra seats at Alexander Stadium, and a swimming pool in Smethwick.

I used to compete (and win!) at Alexander Stadium and the facilities in the rebuilt arena there now are excellent.

The reward is the 2026 European Athletics Championships, a huge event, and Brum will be the first UK city to host it. It will take place there despite the woes of the local authority.

The city had two challenges in it's hosting: 1. It stepped in as a last-moment host to save the Games and 2. Covid!

On balance, it surely must be seen as a success.

Hopefully a velodrome will be built in the region as the Games highlighted the lack of such a facility locally.

Sadly, Tony Butler will not be around to enjoy it.

Agree it was a great games. Also, when compared to other Games, it actually wasnt a financial disaster. many local projects were completed and charged out onto the bill instead of being paid for locally.
