Agree on the dredging. Bewdley was one of the busiest ports in England many years ago. Nowadays in summer, you could walk across the river in many places. Dredging would surely help although the real answer appears to be as simple as planting more trees.(02-27-2020, 07:56 PM)Tom Joad Wrote:(02-27-2020, 07:32 PM)Baggie Rick Wrote: Flood defences only add to the problem. Look at Bridgnorth, Bewdley, Stourport and Worcester all surpassed the highest ever river levels. If you stop water flooding 1 town it will only flood the next 1 down stream, and so on.
Not from my experience. Between Bewdley and Stourport there are huge areas of lowland fields which easily take the extra water that the flood defences has hastened past Bewdley. I believe Stourport is rarely affected.
Overall though, I think the idea is that extra trees at the sources of the river, and at various stages en route, would reduce the amount that flows off Snowdonia and clatters down the Severn Valley.
Errrr FWIW I'm told the fairground is totally flooded in Stourport.
River dredging would be massive help - keep more water flowing is a big positive.
Bridgnorth was the largest inland port many years ago, you can only just about canoe down the river from Bridgnorth now!
