Only bought 17 fans to The Hawthorns, but contrived to beat us 1-0.

They were relegated with 29 points, taking 4 points off us.

What I really remember about that game was all their fans sat together in the smethwick except for one who was sat about 6 rows in front of them on his own.

I was in the east stand that day. Bizarre match. Battered them from the first minute to the last when Jobi Macanuff broke away and scored.

It was what the term smash and grab was invented for.

Also in the East stand for that game, i think their goal was the only time they got the ball in our half. Its the league game I can recall where there really was more stewards than fans in the away end

Remember beating Portsmouth 5-0 at the Hawthorns and it was 4-0 at half time.Graeme Rix was the Portsmouth manager and I am sure it was during Megsons first promotion.Portsmouth showed no effort at all ,never tracked back and literally gave up.

Think Rix was gone not long after that.

Dobie broke his duck after going about 20 games without a goal and Balis scored an outrageous goal IIRC.

One player scored his only goal for us in the stripes that day too.....

Definitely.

IIRC Dave Beasant was in goal for them too, must have been well into his mid-40s by then!
