Cheers Jamin. I'm girding my loins for the usual backlash. Andy Williams haters, the lot of 'em. 

The wife managed to get hold of a bag of currants from a health shop yesterday, though the bag was so large we'll probably be eating them after Brexit has become a distant memory.

I'll bear the brandy thing in mind. We usually put whisky in the Christmas cake on account of there always being whisky in the house. Junior is now the main cake-maker in the house. I'll get her to test this out at a later date rather than risk ruining the main event.

I've found the brandy a bit smoother, just a cheap bottle will do.  I've tried Rum but didn't like that,cheap whisky is a bit harsh and I'm not using the good stuff.

also use about half to a third water in with the Brandy to reduce the strength.  got to soak them at least the night before, the fruit swells up with all the juice and makes the cake sooooooo moist.

we also use a third currants, a third raisins and a third Sultana's in our recipe.

then drizzle the thing in brandy every 2nd or 3rd night throughout November, mouth watering already.
