We either need to put Ajayi into the middle to shield our defence a little more at the expense of the amount of control we exert on the ball, or we need to play a faster striker (either Willock or Ken) to make the opposition sit deeper and free up space for our midfield to pull teams all over the show.

These aren't difficult problems to fix, but it will mean Slav has a decision to make in the coming weeks.

Correct.

The positive thing  about all you've said is that Bilic knows there is a problem and he knows what the problem is. It's a long time since we've had a manger who has identified our weaknesses and corrected them.

IMO Bilic has tried to stick with his first 11 - it's now time to be a bit more fluid and change things around.
The first 7 players on the team sheet have basically been the same for weeks, time to shake it up.
With Sawyers on 4 yellows and Furlong / Bartley / Jake all on 3 we will have some suspensions coming up anyway.
Wth Hegazi - O'Shea - Townsend - Gibbs waiting to fill in, we are pretty much covered.
However Sawyers and Jake will be more difficult to cover Ajayi / Brunt / Harper ?

Clean sheets win the league. Not goals. We score plenty.

Maybe I'm going insane.

You are if you’re blaming yesterday’s draw on the defence

Really don’t get this thread. We let in 2 yesterday but the first no one could legislate for as it was a looping deflection off a block that fell their way, and the second was handed to them by an incompetent ref.
Yesterday we missed a couple of great opportunities and that’s what cost us.
Regardless though, we are in a strong position and we look better than last year.

It's been a long wait for some. Let them have a pressure release. How dare we be only 2 points clear when everyone predicted at the start of the season we'd run away with the league with ease. Not!!! Ffs

There are 2 posters on here who continually knock Sam and Bartley, one is now retired.
Both were excellent again yesterday IMO.

That was Bartleys best game for us by a country mile he was a beast all afternoon and that block in the 1st half was just fugg awesome, no blame can be attached to Johnston for any of the Last 4 goals we have conceded at home imho.

We have to accept with the swagger and attacking style we are playing now, we are always going to concede some goals.
Even yesterday we were always confident of getting back into the game, no heads dropped which is good to see.

It maybe we play tight for the first 15 minutes of any game as when our opponents are fresh, as they often punish us.
Anyway we should be delighted to be top of the league.
Yes a midfield general and a (Super Kev or Bob) striker will certainly help.
Bilic will already have players in mind - I have a lot of respect for him and his in game management.

That block was utterly immense. I'm chuffed for Bartley that he's finally being appreciated, as so many of his poor performances last season were far from his fault. He was being asked to play out from the back on his weaker foot and kept to the task despite knowing it was his undoing.

He worked his nuts off on the training ground last year trying to adapt to his new role and has always given absolutely everything for us.
