'Hip' wasn't a word that ever sprang to mind. My recollection of it is just as a place where they carried on serving after the pubs had shut.

I really liked The Laff. Certainly wasn't hip, mind.  Barbarellas and JBs have to be my faves though. I never much cared for the posey type of nightclubs. 
 Showing my age now, The Rum Runner, The Romulus, The Locarno, Tower Ballroom, in Brum.  Pandoras in Dudley.
