Roger Dean's album artwork for Yes was pretty good, and The Grateful Dead had some absolute purlers of album covers.

On the subject of album covers there was a thing on Radcliffe & Maconie a while back, can you think of an album cover by a “proper “ act - ie not Des O’Connor, Nolan Sisters etc - where the artist(s) are smiling? Only one I could think of was Please Please Me.
