MLS finishes in October, so he’ll have 2 months with no competitive football, before coming into a gruelling Championship campaign in January without a pre-season...

Can understand the commercial opportunities, and no doubt there will be a few Rooney non competitive matches whilst he gets fit.

Of course he could just start training with them in October anyway...

Then he’s going into a hectic 4-5 month period of games without any rest... he’s also still under contract with DC united, insurances and whatever wouldn’t be overly comfortable with that arrangement... say he takes an Appleton style injury in a training session?

Depends. DC well placed to qualify for playoffs which begin October 19th. Potentially, if they reach the final, he'll be playing until Nov 10th.

The FA could arrange a couple of England friendlies for him.

Massive excitement in the city of Derby unfortunately!! Even if he’s average out on the pitch don’t underestimate the boost, rise in profile and feel good factor he’s already giving them.
The Rooney shirts will be everywhere around here I fear Sad

They are, which is why they’ve done this player/coach thing as a way to get around it.

Like the player/coach thing, by this time next season there will be more coaches than players.

But moving to January, what’s going to happen if Derby are/or near mid table ?
