I think the biggest disappointment came after signing all of the crap players from Grimsby, we then had a bid accepted (for a lot of dosh back then), for their captain , and Buckleys' missing piece of the jigsaw......Paul Groves. Couldn't pass, tackle, score, or head the ball. Man, those days were grim.
Have to say though, not as grim as the Saunders era.

In `86 we had Stewart Evans and Bobby Williamson ! Two donkeys who could easily make anyones fantasy worst eleven.

Evans the worst footballer I've ever seen at the Hawthorns. Bobby Williamson I thought was ok.

Evans was the worst I can recall, Paul Williams, Paul Dyson and Martin Dickinson come close.
