Awaiting Ramsey thoughts?

Firstly, I'm glad we seem to be acting quickly.

I think potential head coach/managers are being sounded out all the time by clubs as an ongoing process. Most managers are only ever a bad run of 4-5 defeats away from the P45.

The club seems to have learned a bit since the debacle surrounding replacing CC. It took far too long regardless of the fact that Mowbray was a disaster.

Mason seemed a strange appointment, but it was beginning to look clear a couple of months ago he wasn't up to it. I'm surprised he lasted this long and with hindsight the comeback win v Swansea at the Hawthorns was probably the worst thing that happened this season. At half time he was gone.

As for Eric Ramsay, it's another leftfield appointment. Nestor could have played safer with Carrick, but all managerial replacements are gambles. I think this is a bolder move and may fit in better as they restructure the football side of the club.

Regards the Patel regime. We are still indebted to them. They are seriously hampered by FFP. They acted honorably with Mason, and i think most on here wanted him to succeed, but there will always be the idiots more invested in proving themselves right.

I hope the fan base will now get behind the club in a more positive way.

This season is purely about damage limitation and nothing else now. Finishing comfortably mid table will suit me fine.

Wondering how positive/negative many feel now?

Agree with all of that AND feeling positive in a way I simply wasn't about Mason.  The more I read about Ramsay's philosophy and how he actually tries to impact games, the more enthusiastic I feel about his appointment

Agree with this - I think CC's departure caught the club a little off guard, yes they'll have been aware of interest, but I think the speed at which it happened, coupled with the Christmas period and the fast flow of games was a real learning curve for Nestor and co. I do not blame them for doing such a thorough process, and it looks like they have learned firstly from the time it took, and the panic appointment of Mowbray.

I am surprised we've nailed our colours to the mast so quickly with Ramsay, especially given how Mason worked out, but like other posters have said, the club has a vision of what it wants in terms of a young, coaching-first management appointment that will work with a TD and Nestor, and will prioritise a cross-club identity and player development, and we are more likely to get that with a younger coach than another Mowbray.

I feel a lot more positive about Ramsay than I did Mason, as his lack of actual management experience, and the red flags around how he'd chopped and changed formations and styles during his time with Spurs, and the inconsistency in results even in those brief spells were a worry, and it seems he was unable to overcome those weaknesses during his time here. Ramsay conversely has built a successful style of play in the MLS and has a track record of delivering with limited resources, which will be crucial here.

I just hope he gets a free hit this season - it will take ineptitude of massive proportions to relegate this squad - so let's give him 20 games to plan and learn for next season... as long as he shows signs of learning!

I guess Patel's people have been talking to Ramsay for a while. He wanted to finish the season with Minnesota, or he may have joined us back in the summer. Now is probably a good time to be leaving Minnesota and the USA. Perhaps this switch was planned several weeks before Christmas.

We'll soon know if different/better coaching can eliminate the errors at both ends of the pitch. If it can, we have little to worry about.

Funny, I was just thinking the same thing. People say we've acted quicker...he ain't here til he's putting the cones out

As Lenny Kravitz said it ain’t over till it’s over.
Let’s hope it is him as we don’t want another sticky Wicky drama.

I'll be delighted if it's Ramsay, as I now expect it will be. Looking forward to seeing a functioning system and some repeatable patterns of play. And big Daryl back in the team.

Great appointment.

If it is Ramsay I'll give him time, but I have serious reservations about him. Oddly, I'm more uninspired about him than I was Mason, had Ramsay been first then he'd be the one clouding my view of the next kid that comes in. Because the Mason experiment went so wrong, any new manager has a low bar to win fans over, but equally I think they'll have a shorter failure window allowance too.

As ever hoping it works out, but not really expecting it to.
