The Met will no longer investigate hurty words on Social Media that don't clearly reach the high threshold of inciting violence.

What a whopper the new Green Party leader is by the way!

The internet is an absolute shitshow at the moment and some people deserve to get investigated but that case was a joke (literally) and makes them look daft for even pursuing it.

Can only agree with you on this one Jacko.
I really don’t understand why Graham Linehan has sabotaged his career and personal life taking on this position but that’s not the point on your comment.
It was a joke the way they wasted time and money on this and all they’ve done is discredit free speech and played into the hands of the right wing media who have made hay of this.

Such an utterly strange hill to die on for Linehan.

I actually don't think it was necessarily the hill, but him being incessantly 24/7 online about it that's done for him. He comes across as unhinged and has done so for a while and I say that as someone with sympathy with some of his views.

Just like we can see with QAnon and a whole array of other causes, across the political spectrum, the internet means that people can spend their every waking hour fixated on a issue and that is very unhealthy.

This is the crux of the issue, he didn't sabotage his own career, he was cancelled by his own industry for perfectly sensible views.

True. Your take is better than mine. It was obsessively going on about it which was more strange, rather than his view held.
Now let me get back to bringing up the umble charlatan Big Grin

Yes, that's right. Almost as though he was on a martyrdom quest. Personally (and selfishly), I'd prefer him to keep writing brilliant comedy while using his profile to occasionally comment, but clearly,  this means everything to him.

Reminds me of JK Rowling getting over arsed about the trans debate. It’s hard to fathom why such people want to concentrate so much energy on what are clearly subjective topics.

Nonetheless, Cracko is right, this instance was a waste of time and I’m glad it’s been canned
