Jenrick is playing a very dangerous game. There are areas of Birmingham that have serious integration issues (Alum Rock, Shard End). Handsworth is categorically not one of them, it's the centre of Birmingham's Sikh, Afro-Carribbean, Hindu, Vietnamese Buddhists and it has a sizeable Bangladeshi and Pakistani population - living side by side.

Going back 30 odd years, I used to play cricket in the Laurel Rd cricket team. I was the only white bloke in the team. We had Muslims,Hindus, Caribbean lads, Sikhs, Jesus freaks. And i'd prefer to be in a 100 teams like that than spend half an hour with Jenrick. And I certainly wouldn't want him for a neighbour. What is he scared of?

It has some of the top performing schools in the city. From a business perspective, nearly all the shops on Soho Road are fully occupied and a large jewellery shop has recently opened. And it is very diverse indeed. It's not without it's issues but that has more to do with substance abuse than the amount of melanin in any one's skin.

Is that really the best Jenrick has to offer?

Is all we have to look forward from our politicians is a rehash of sloganeering from the 1964 election?
